Don’t Make Fun of Muhammad

David Wood:

Muslim protesters have been trying to send the world a message: “Don’t make fun of Muhammad . . . or else!”

For those who would like to verify the sources I cited, here you
go:

Qur’an 9:29—Fight those who believe not in Allah.

Qur’an 9:123—O you who believe! fight those of the unbelievers
who are near to you and let them find in you hardness.

Qur’an
48:29
—Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are
severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves.

Qur’an
98:6
—Verily, those who disbelieve (in the religion of Islam, the Qur’an and
Prophet Muhammad) from among the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)
and Al-Mushrikun will abide in the Fire of Hell. They are the worst of
creatures.

Sahih Muslim 33—“I have been commanded to fight
against people till they testify that there is no god but Allah.”

Qur’an 5:51—O you who believe! do not take the Jews and the
Christians for friends; they are friends of each other; and whoever amongst you
takes them for a friend, then surely he is one of them; surely Allah does not
guide the unjust people.

Sahih Muslim 4366—It has been narrated
by ‘Umar b. al-Khattab that he heard the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon
him) say: I will expel the Jews and Christians from the Arabian Peninsula and
will not leave any but Muslim.

Qur’an 4:34—Men are in charge of
women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because
they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the
obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from
whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge
them. Then if they obey you, seek not a way against them. Lo! Allah is ever
High, Exalted, Great.

Sahih Muslim 2127— . . . [H]e (the Holy
Prophet) entered the (house), and said: Why is it, O Aisha, that you are out of
breath? I said: There is nothing. He said: Tell me or the Subtle and the Aware
would inform me. I said: Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransom
for you, and then I told him (the whole story). He said: Was it the darkness (of
your shadow) that I saw in front of me? I said: Yes. He struck me on the chest
which caused me pain, and then said: Did you think that Allah and His Apostle
would deal unjustly with you? . . .

Qur’an 2:223—Your women are
your tilth, so come into your tillage how you choose; but do a previous good act
for yourselves, and fear God, and know that ye are going to meet Him; and give
good tidings unto those who do believe.

Qur’an 2:282— . . . and
call in to witness from among your men two witnesses; but if there are not two
men, then one man and two women from among those whom you choose to be
witnesses, so that if one of the two errs, the second of the two may remind the
other . . .

Sahih al-Bukhari 2658—The Prophet said: “Isn’t the
witness of a woman equal to half of that of a man?” The women said: “Yes.” He
said: “This is because of the deficiency of her mind.”

Qur’an
70:29-30
—And those who guard their private parts, except in the case of
their wives or those whom their right hands possess—for these surely are not to
be blamed,

Qur’an 4:24—And all married women (are forbidden unto
you) save those (captives) whom your right hands possess. It is a decree of
Allah for you. Lawful unto you are all beyond those mentioned, so that ye seek
them with your wealth in honest wedlock, not debauchery. And those of whom ye
seek content (by marrying them), give unto them their portions as a duty. And
there is no sin for you in what ye do by mutual agreement after the duty (hath
been done). Lo! Allah is ever Knower, Wise.

Sunan Abu Dawud
2150
—Abu Said al-Khudri said: “The apostle of Allah sent a military
expedition to Awtas on the occasion of the battle of Hunain. They met their
enemy and fought with them. They defeated them and took them captives. Some of
the Companions of the apostle of Allah were reluctant to have intercourse with
the female captives in the presence of their husbands who were unbelievers. So
Allah, the Exalted, sent down the Quranic verse, “And all married women (are
forbidden) unto you save those (captives) whom your right hands possess” [Qur’an
4:24]. That is to say, they are lawful for them when they complete their waiting
period.”

Sahih al-Bukhari 4200—Narrated Anas: The Prophet offered
the Fajr (morning) prayer near Khaibar when it was still dark and then said,
“Allahu Akbar! Khaibar is destroyed, for whenever we approach a (hostile) nation
(to fight), then evil will be the morning for those who have been warned.” Then
the inhabitants of Khaibar came out running on the roads. The Prophet had their
warriors killed, their offspring and women taken as captives. Safiyya was
amongst the captives, she first came in the share of Dihya Al-Kalbi but later on
she belonged to the Prophet. The Prophet made her manumission as her Mahr.

Al-Tabari, Volume 39, p. 185—Ibn ‘Umar [al-Waqidi] – Kathir b.
Zayd – al-Walid b. Rabah – Abu Hurayrah: While the Prophet was lying with
Safiyyah Abu Ayyub stayed the night at his door. When he saw the Prophet in the
morning he said “God is the Greatest.” He had a sword with him; he said to the
Prophet, “O Messenger of God, this young woman had just been married, and you
killed her father, her brother and her husband, so I did not trust her (not to
harm) you.” The Prophet laughed and said “Good.”

Al-Tabari, Volume
39, p. 194
—The Prophet admired Umm Ibrahaim [Mary the Copt], who was
fair-skinned and beautiful. He lodged her in al-Aliyah, at the property nowadays
called the mashrabah of Umm Ibrahim. He used to visit her there and ordered her
to veil herself, [but] he had intercourse with her by virtue of her being his
property.

  1. Hi David,

Great work. “Don’t burn the Quran; quote it to expose Islam”!
When I am on You Tube commenting on Islam, rather than respond to Muslim insults, I keep hitting them with verses from Quran & Hadith. They go ballistic. This is why your work is so important. As you know, you only have 500 characters to make your comment, so I use your articles & cut them into 500 character comments.

    THE IMPERFECT “PERFECT” QURAN
This raises an obvious question. What’s the difference between a book that’s been perfectly preserved, and one that hasn’t been perfectly preserved? If Muslims are right, there’s no difference at all. The typical characteristics of a book that hasn’t been perfectly preserved are (1) missing phrases, (2) missing passages, (3) missing chapters, (4) disagreements about what goes back to the original, etc.

    ASSESSMENT OF TODAY’S QURAN
Obviously, the Qur’an has changed significantly over the years. The evidence shows that entire chapters were lost, that large sections of chapters came up missing, that individual verses were forgotten, and that phrases have been left out. Muhammad’s best teachers and reciters couldn’t even agree on which chapters were supposed to be in the Qur’an.

    MISSING VERSES
Aisha also tells us that individual verses of the Qur’an disappeared, sometimes in very interesting ways:
Sunan ibn Majah 1944—It was narrated that Aishah said: “The Verse of stoning and of breastfeeding an adult ten times was revealed, and the paper was with me under my pillow. When the Messenger of Allah died, we were preoccupied with his death, and a tame sheep/goat came in and ate it.”
The verses on stoning and breastfeeding an adult not in the Qur’an today.

    MISSING PASSAGES
We know further that large sections of certain chapters came up missing. For instance, Muhammad’s wife Aisha said that roughly two-thirds of Surah 33 was lost:
Abu Ubaid, Kitab Fada’il-al-Qur’an—A’isha . . . said, “Surat al-Ahzab (xxxiii) used to be recited in the time of the Prophet with two hundred verses, but when Uthman wrote out the codices he was unable to procure more of it than there is in it today [i.e. 73 verses].”

2 CHAPTERS MISSING FROM THE “PERFECT” QURAN & THE PART THE GOAT EAT
One of Muhammad’s companions, Abu Musa, supported this claim when he said that the early Muslims forgot two surahs (chapters) due to laziness:
    Sahih Muslim 2286

    THE “PERFECT” QURAN IS MISSING
When Ibn Umar—son of the second Muslim caliph—heard people declaring that they knew the entire Qur’an, he said to them: “Let none of you say, ‘I have learned the whole of the Koran,’ for how does he know what the whole of it is, when much of it has disappeared? Let him rather say, ‘I have learned what is extant thereof’” (Abu Ubaid, Kitab Fada’il-al-Qur’an).

    FLAWED QURAN
Due to these disputes among Muhammad’s hand-picked reciters, Muslims are faced with a dilemma. If Muslims say that the Qur’an we have today has been perfectly preserved, they must say that Muhammad was horrible at choosing scholars, since he selected men who disagreed with today’s text. If, on the other hand, Muslims say that their prophet would know whom to pick regarding Islam’s holiest book, they must conclude that the Qur’an we have today is flawed!

Sahih al-Bukhari 5005—Umar said, “Ubayy was the best of us in the recitation (of the Qur’an), yet we leave some of what he recites.” Ubayy says, “I have taken it from the mouth of Allah’s Messenger and will not leave it for anything whatever.”

But Ibn Masud wasn’t the only one of Muhammad’s trusted teachers who disagreed with Zaid’s Qur’an. Ubayy ibn Ka’b was Muhammad’s best reciter and one of the only Muslims to collect the materials of the Qur’an during Muhammad’s lifetime. Yet Ibn Ka’b believed that Zaid’s Qur’an was missing two chapters! Later Muslims were therefore forced to reject some of Ibn Ka’b’s recitation:

    Reply
Ibn Masud advised Muslims to reject Zaid’s Qur’an and to keep their own versions—even to hide them so that they wouldn’t be confiscated by the government! He said:
Jami at-Tirmidhi 3104—“O you Muslim people! Avoid copying the Mushaf and recitation of this man. By Allah! When I accepted Islam he was but in the loins of a disbelieving man”—meaning Zaid bin Thabit—and it was regarding this that Abdullah bin Mas’ud said: “O people of Al-Iraq! Keep the Musahif that are with you, and conceal them.”
