CAIR again turns to Saudi TV to promote new initiative: “Islam for Journalists”

110680358By Adam Savit:

Terror-tied Muslim Brotherhood front group the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is hawking a new “resource” to keep journalists from running afoul of politically sanctioned speech codes when reporting on Islam and Muslims.

As with CAIR’s much-heralded “Islamophobia Report” release last October, the only TV news outlet to cover the story–at least the only one CAIR saw fit to post on their YouTube channel–was KSA-2 TV, the official English-language network of the regime of Saudi Arabia, owned and operated by the Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information.

Islam for Journalists“Islam for Journalists” is co-edited by Lawrence Pintak, whose works include Seeds of Hate: How America’s Flawed Middle East Policy Ignited the Jihad.  The journalist primer recommends “Experts” including Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and Daisy Khan, the married duo behind the push to erect a mega-mosque adjacent to Ground Zero (p.274, ASMA).

While a second party produced this guide, CAIR has released many similar publications meant to sanitize speech and render criticism of Islamist activities and goals impossible.  They include guides for health care workersemployers and educators.

The guide for employers, meant to create a “culturally-sensitive work-place environment,” is perhaps most disturbing.  One need look no further than Fort Hood jihadist Nidal Hassan to see the results of employers and supervisors cowed by political correctness and unable to make the most simple judgments about who or what they deem to be threats to their employees.

The shackles put on journalists, though seemingly less acute, serve to deny policymakers and the public the opportunity to examine the most critical threats to our society and devise policies to counter them.  This inability to describe the threat neuters a free citizen’s ability to confront the threat.  It seems this is what CAIR is banking on.

CAIR’s Guide to Media Manipulation,  by Ryan Mauro at Clarion Project on October 17, 2013

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a U.S. Muslim Brotherhood entity and unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation trial, is a master media manipulator. And it is passing on its skills to aspiring activists in ways that should offend and wake up every journalist.

The Investigative Project on Terrorism obtained a CAIR presentation about influencing the media and presented it in an online video (see below). The presentation bears the name of Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR’s communications director.

In 1993, Hooper was working for CAIR’s predecessor when he said, “I wouldn’t want to create the impression that I wouldn’t like the government of the United States to be Islamic sometime in the future. In 2003, he allegedly said on a radio program that sharia law would replace the Constitution if Muslims became the majority.

One of the slides titled, “Characteristics of a Journalist,” displays the condescending attitude that CAIR has towards the media. The characteristics are as follows:

  • “They will expect you to do their work. Let them.”
  • “Does little primary research.”
  • “Under extreme deadline pressure.”
  • “Fears charges of inaccuracy.”

CAIR recognizes that journalists have to turn their stories in on time. They are often juggling multiple stories and are not encouraged to indefinitely pursue stories to their ultimate end, digging up every fact and following every lead. After all, most articles are short and are designed to only give a basic overview.

CAIR has offices around the country and staff members whose job is to develop personal relationships with media sources. Once CAIR convinces the media source that it is the authoritative spokesperson of the Muslim-American community, it becomes the spokesperson.

Through this relationship, CAIR can pitch stories complete with accompanying “facts” and quotes, offering the journalist or radio/TV producer a much-needed shortcut. The result is that CAIR, to a large degree, gets to write the narrative.

This relationship is best articulated by the words of Sarwat Husain,Vice Chair of CAIR. In 2008, she spoke at the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) South Central Conference in San Antonio, Texas. ISNA is CAIR’s fellow U.S. Muslim Brotherhood entity and, along with CAIR, is an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terror-funding case in U.S. history which involved the Holyland Foundation.

According to the Investigative Project online video, she said:

“Media in the United States is very gullible, ok? And they will see that if you have something, especially as a Muslim, if you have something to say, they will come running to you—and take advantage of that.”

According to her bio on the CAIR website, Husain serves on the Texas Media Empowerment Project, publishes the largest Muslim newspaper in the state and frequently writes for San Antonio Express News. She even used to sit on the FBI Regional Advisory Council.

In 1993, the FBI wiretapped a secret U.S. Muslim Brotherhood/Hamas meeting in Philadelphia that was attended by two of CAIR’s future founders. One of the topics was the need to build a new front with clean hands that could influence the media, with deception as a primary tactic.

“Forming the public opinion or coming up with a policy to influence … the way the Americans deal with the Islamists, for instance. I believe that should be the goals of this stage,” said Hamas operative Abdel Haleem al-Ashqar.

CAIR was born the following year.

A Muslim Brotherhood document written as far back as 1982 (but seized in a 2001 raid by authorities in Switzerland) emphasized the need for a media offensive. Titled “The Project,” a stated goal was to “diffuse Islamic policy so that it is largely and efficiently covered by the media.”

1991 U.S. Muslim Brotherhood memo, seized in 2004 in Virginia, defines its “work in America as a kind of grand jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within.”

The memo states that the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood has a “Media and Art Organization” that is tasked with making newspapers, magazine, radio and television programs, audio/visual centers and building a recording studio. It even says that it has producers, journalists and program anchors ready.

An undated Muslim Brotherhood document also captured in the 2004 Virginia raid and called the “Phases of World Underground Movement Plan” lists the phases of Brotherhood operations in general (not referring to America exclusively). All are done with the utmost secrecy and deception. The media plays a central part.

Phase 2, described as the “phase of gradual appearance on the public scene,” is focused on “gaining public support and sympathy.”

Phase 3, described as the “Escalation Phase, prior to conflict and confrontation with the rulers,” focuses on “utilizing mass media.” Another objective is “containment of the remaining influential elements in the society in preparation for the whole shake-up stage.”

The final fifth phase is, “Seizing power to establish their Islamic Nation under which all parties and Islamic groups become united…”

The internal Brotherhood documents agree: The media is a top-tier target. And based on the statements made by CAIR officials, they are happy with the results.

Call to Purge Muslim Brotherhood Influence from US Government & Civic Life

The Brotherhood’s creed: “Allah is our objective; the Quran is our law, the Prophet is our leader; Jihad is our way; and death for the sake of Allah is the highest of our aspirations.”

By Carol Washington:

I call upon the federal government and each elected representative to now, finally, recognize the Muslim Brotherhood as detrimental to human liberty and representative democracy and to remove its influence from our shores. Whether in Egypt or in America, the Muslim Brotherhood (MB or Ikhwan), is ultimately a movement toward a global totalitarian sharia government and must be treated as such.

Confirmation of its objective is found in “The Muslim Brotherhood “Project””* (1982), wherein a 12-point strategy is outlined to “establish an Islamic government on earth.“ And in “An Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Brotherhood in North America”** (1991 Memorandum), wherein the MB defines its subversive agenda in the United States as:

“The process of settlement is a ‘Civilization-Jihadist Process’ with all the word means. The Ikhwan must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and ‘sabotaging’ its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion (Islam) is made victorious over all other religions.”

I also call on the federal government to rescind dubious non-profit status for any entities and their leadership that are shown to have affiliation with the MB. In addition, where appropriate, to have these organizations and their leadership to register with the US government as foreign agents in accordance with the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) which requires anyone “acting as agents of foreign principals in a political or quasi-political capacity to make periodic public disclosure of their relationship with the foreign principal, as well as activities, receipts and disbursements in support of those activities” (see www.fara.gov).

The 1991 Memorandum lists 29 MB affiliated organizations including Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), Muslim Students’ Association (MSA), North American Islamic Trust (NAIT), Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA), International Institute for Islamic Thought (IIIT), and Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP, linked as a predecessor to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, CAIR). Some of these organizations and/or their leadership have been exposed as supporters of jihad terror. In a gleeful bracketed note the MB author of the list of states “Imagine if they all march according to one plan!!!” (exclamation points in the original).

“The Muslim Brotherhood “Project“” lists as a key point: “To work with loyalty alongside Islamic groups and institutions in multiple areas to agree on common ground, in order to “cooperate on the points of agreement and set aside the points of disagreement”.” Just imagine if they really were to march according to one plan.

Further characterization of the MB is found in their creed: “Allah is our objective. Koran is our law. The prophet is our leader. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest aspiration.” How far can this be from al-Qaeda’s desires?

However, jihad in the way of Allah to establish Islam and sharia law does not just mean violent, armed insurrection; it also means achieving ideological objectives by means of infiltration into positions of influence within government or as advisors, costly lawsuits claiming discrimination, threats designed to squelch speech, demands for public accommodation, ownership or intimidation of the media and an ever increasing burden on public assistance systems. Foreign funding of university-level Middle Eastern programs comes with strings, with historical and ideological viewpoints that may lean toward indoctrination and not scholarly investigation. Funding, text book modifications and ideological pressure is now also being felt in elementary schools.

Sharia law must not be seen as just a religious law for Muslims, for it is a totalitarian theo-political construct under which Muslims and non-Muslims are oppressed. In addition to its hostility to the spirit of the Declaration of Independence and representative governance, at a minimum, sharia law conflicts with the US Constitution at Article IV Section 4 (republican form of government); 1st Amendment (freedom of speech, press, assembly and religion); 4th, 5th, 7th and 14th Amendments (personal security, due process); 8th Amendment (by allowing cruel and unusual punishments); and 10th Amendment (by prohibiting states’ rights). Ignorance and misplaced toleration of Islamic intolerance simply enables the advance of sharia and the retreat of open inquiry and the rule of Constitutional law.

One might reexamine the cogent letters Rep. Michele Bachmann and associates sent on June 13, 2012 to the Inspectors General of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice and the Department of State requesting a multi-department investigation into potential MB infiltration into the US government. In addition, Rep. Bachmann’s July 13, 2012 letter to Rep. Keith Ellison is particularly illuminating and includes 59 relevant footnotes to aid the reader in exploring the concerns raised. Rep. Bachmann found these letters to be both necessary and “beyond timely”—given what is going on in Egypt, this cannot be overstated.

That Islam has not yet achieved its objective or that it seems unachievable is immaterial, the global and domestic efforts to do so are in themselves destructive of our nation and free society. Egypt is demonstrating its resolve and its tilt toward freedom by once again containing the Ikhwan, the Muslim Brothers; I think it is time for us to consider the same.

The bombs of Boston, the massacre at Fort Hood and the infiltration of our nation are each dots of jihad to be connected and used in defense of self. It is moral and right that we do so; it is unconscionable that we have delayed self-defense for so long.

“The refusal of the Western elite class to protect their nations from jihadist infiltration is the biggest betrayal in history.” ~ Serge Trifkovic

Concerned Citizen

Call for Congressional Hearings into Al Jazeera as a Homeland Security Threat

stop al JazeeraBy Pamela Geller:

I am honored to fight alongside Cliff Kincaid in beating back the jihadist media machine that is buying whole dangerous access to the American news consuming public. I am honored to be a primary signatory of this letter to Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rep. Michael McCaul,  requesting that the House Homeland Security Committee convene hearings into the national security threat posed by Al Jazeera on American soil.

This is an ongoing battle. I spoke to this grave threat at a press conference with Cliff Kincaid on Al Jazeera back in April 2011. Watch the video here. More here and our AlJazeera conference videos and materials here. We have just begun to fight. Stay tuned.

The Honorable Michael McCaul Chairman, Committee on Homeland Security U.S. House of Representatives H2-176 Ford House Office Building

Dear Chairman McCaul:

We respectfully request that the House Homeland Security Committee convene hearings into the national security threat posed by Al Jazeera on American soil. The announcement that the Qatar-funded enemy propaganda channel, which has functioned as a voice for al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden, has taken over an existing U.S.-based cable TV channel, Current TV, must be examined by the Congress.

Dr. Judea Pearl, father of slain journalist Daniel Pearl, has informed us, in regard to this controversy, “I support your call to investigate the impact of this transaction.” His statement reads as follows:

“A decade of watching over its programs has left me no doubt: Al Jazeera is the main propaganda machine of the Muslim Brotherhood. Posing as a benign alternative communication medium, Al Jazeera choreographs a world stage in which the West is a perennial villain, Hamas is the ultimate role model, and entire societies are dehumanized to a lower form of life, stripped of any mark of dignity or empathy. While refraining from explicit incitement to violence, Al Jazeera weaves the ideological structure and combustible angers from which Jihadi recruits eventually emerge.”

Details are sketchy, but it is reported that Current TV was owned by former Democratic Vice President Al Gore and Joel Hyatt and that the reported purchase price was $500 million, with $100 million of that going to Mr. Gore personally.

These issues present themselves:

  • What is the nature of the contract between Al-Jazeera and Current TV owners Al Gore and Joel Hyatt, and the cable and satellite providers implicated in the deal?
  • Why did Mr. Gore and Mr. Hyatt reportedly bypass the prospect of selling the cable TV property to an American citizen and media personality, Glenn Beck, in preference for a foreign entity owned by an Arab government?
  • What federal rules or laws are in place to guard against foreign acquisition of American media organizations? Should they be strengthened? Should this deal be approved or examined by the federal government?

The House Homeland Security Committee is the appropriate and necessary vehicle for this inquiry because it was specifically established in part to “better protect the American people against a possible terrorist attack.”

There is a clear and present danger in American cable and satellite providers  accepting carriage of Al Jazeera. In a statement made available on February 23, 2011, Dr. Pearl said,“Al Jazeera’s popularity and general acceptance in the West has emboldened its management to take an even harder anti-Western stance. Their glorification of child-killer Samir Kuntar, and their leaking of the so called Al-Jazeera Palestine Papers in January of 2011, aimed to destroy the credibility of Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas and to end all hopes for [a] negotiated Mideast settlement are two of many steps attesting [to] their aims and tactics.”

In the case of Samir Kuntar, a released terrorist who had smashed the head of a four-year-old girl with his rifle butt in 1979 after killing her father before her eyes, Al Jazeera not only covered but helped sponsor an August 2008 birthday party for him. Kuntar had been released by Israel in exchange for the bodies of two Israeli soldiers, who were kidnapped by Hezbollah in 2006.

Clearly, Al Jazeera is unlike any other foreign “news’ operation. However, there are some some striking similarities to Al Manar television, a satellite television station affiliated with Hezbollah in Beirut, Lebanon, which has been officially labeled a terrorist entity by the U.S Government and banned from the United States.

Does the treatment of Al Manar serve as a template for how to deal with Al Jazeera’s presence on American soil? Obama Administration officials should be asked to explain what differences, if any, they perceive there to be between Al Manar and Al Jazeera.

One admitted difference is that Qatar, which finances Al Jazeera, is a government, not an officially-designated terrorist organization. Still, the regime supports terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah and is viewed by some as a state sponsor of terrorism. In the case before us, we believe Congress should examine whether Al Jazeera itself functions as a terrorist entity and not just a diplomatic tool of the Qatar regime.

The relationship between Qatar and Al Jazeera and the Muslim Brotherhood also requires attention. We note that Ikhwanweb, the official English website of the Muslim Brotherhood, has referred to Al Jazeera as “the greatest Arab media organization.”

The U.S. State Department designates Hamas as a “Foreign Terrorist Organization” and states that it “was formed in late 1987 as an outgrowth of the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood.”

Dr. Judea Pearl has commented in the past — and has reiterated here —that Al Jazeera is the voice of the Muslim Brotherhood. That voice has a real name and face – Yusef Al-Qaradawi, the Al-Jazeera TV personality who has stated, among other things, that Hitler was divine punishment for the misdeeds of the Jews; that the Holocaust was exaggerated; that he desires to end his life in the service of Jihad by visiting Israel and throwing a bomb, becoming a“martyr” in the process; and that the U.S. will collapse if it doesn’t end its“unjust ways.”

The immediate danger that must be addressed is that Al Jazeera’s influence over potential Muslim extremists could inspire home-grown Jihadists to commit terrorist acts against Americans. We already have evidence that the words and images on Al Jazeera have inspired foreign terrorists to kill Americans in places such as Iraq. The captured terrorists have said so on film in a documentary produced by Accuracy in Media.
