Terror Experts ‘Very Concerned’ About Sen. Warren Aide and His Radical Mosque

Warren staffer Hamza Abdelgany invited the senator to speak at a Boston Islamic Center linked to several major terrorism cases.

CounterJihad, by Paul Sperry, December 12, 2016:

Sen. Elizabeth Warren said she made an ill-advised appearance at a Boston mosque linked to several major terrorism cases at the request of an office aide who attends the radical mosque.

The Massachusetts Democrat said she agreed to speak Sunday at the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center at the urging of staffer Hamza Abdelgany, who is a member of the mosque, which has graduated no fewer than 13 terrorists and recently was caught on video defending many of the terrorists, even after they were convicted in federal court.

Warren spoke before the congregation for several minutes chiefly to complain about “anti-Muslim hate” allegedly inspired by the election of GOP President-elect Donald Trump.

Charles Jacobs, founder of Boston-based Americans for Peace and Tolerance, told CJ that he is “very concerned” that a member of a mosque that supports and even raises money for the legal defense of known terrorists has such political clout. He said that Warren’s ill-considered visit bestowed undue legitimacy on ISB.

ISB operates two mosques: one in Roxbury, where the so-called “interfaith” event attended by Warren was held, and the other in Cambridge, where several terrorists and terrorist supporters have worshipped, including:

  • Boston Marathon bombers Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarnaev;
  • Aafia Siddiqui, aka Lady al-Qaida, who raised money for the terror group in area mosques and is serving an 86-year federal sentence for trying to murder a US Army captain in Afghanistan, where she was captured with plans to carry out a chemical attack on New York City;
  • ISB imam Abdullah Faaruuq, who was heard on tape urging Boston Muslims to “pick up the gun and the sword” to defend Siddiqui during her 2010 trial.
  • Tarek Mehanna, who in 2012 got 17 years in federal prison for conspiring to use automatic weapons to murder shoppers in a suburban Boston mall, as well as for conspiring to aid Al Qaeda;
  • Ahmad Abousamra, an indicted terrorist co-conspirator of Mehanna who fled to Syria in 2006 where he resurfaced as a top ISIS propagandist and was added to the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list in 2013, where he remains today.
  • ISB congregant Rezwan Ferdaus, who in 2012 got 17 years in federal prison for plotting to attack the Pentagon and US Capitol with remote-controlled airplane bombs.
  • ISB major donor Oussama Ziade, who was indicted in 2009 for dealing with terrorist funds and is now a fugitive living in Lebanon.
  • ISB co-founder Abduraham Alamoudi, who was sentenced in 2004 to 23 years in prison for plotting terrorism and identified by the US government as a top Muslim Brotherhood figure as well as a key al-Qaida fundraiser in America.
  • ISB founding trustee Yusuf Qaradawi, who was placed on the US terror watchlist after calling for violent jihad against US troops in Iraq and is currently the subject of an Interpol arrest warrant on charges of incitement to murder.
  • Jamal Badawi, another former trustee who in 2007 was named an unindicted co-conspirator in a plan to funnel more than $12 million to Palestinian suicide bombers.

ISB leadership also includes Abdul-Malik Merchant, an associate imam who recently was forced to apologize to the Jewish community for posting anti-Semitic posts on social media.

ISB member Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who was caught on surveillance videotape planting a bomb along the Boston Marathon route, became an angry jihadist after joining the mosque. According to his ex-girlfriend, “One minute he was a normal guy, the next minute he is watching these crazy Muslim videos.”

In 2011, ISB hosted an event in support of no fewer than 22 terrorists who were convicted of providing material support for al-Qaeda, Hamas, Palestinian Jihad and Pakistani terrorist groups — including Siddiqui, Alamoudi and Mehanna. During the event, which was caught on video, relatives of the terrorists bashed the FBI, the Justice Department and the US government; and at least one speaker called for violent jihad against the US.

Still, Warren stood where they stood and bashed the president-elect.

“I am very concerned about how Donald trump is beginning to define his administration with the people he personally is picking to lead this country,” Warren said, while claiming that “since the election attacks on racial and religious groups have skyrocketed.”

“Now is a time when we must be willing to say loud and clear there is no room for bigotry anywhere in the United States of America — none,” she said. “An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us, and we will fight back against discrimination whenever and wherever it occurs.”

Six prominent religious leaders fired off a letter criticizing Warren for agreeing to appear at the mosque, arguing she provided “political cover to one of the most intolerant jihadist mosques in America.”

Warren was invited by ISB member Hamza Abdelgany, a staff assistant working out of Warren’s Quincy, Mass., office. Abdelgany was involved with the Muslim Students Association while attending the University of Massachusetts at Boston. The US government says MSA is a front group for the radical Muslim Brotherhood, which supports violent jihad and conspires to one day bring the US and other Western nations under Islamic rule.

“The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt … Its ultimate goal is the creation of a global Islamic State governed by Sharia law,” U.S. Attorney James T. Jacks said in a 2008 court filing related to a major terrorism case. “Muslim Brotherhood members first migrated to the United States in the 1960s, where they began their grassroots work on campuses through an organization called the Muslim Students Association.”

ISB is run by the Muslim American Society, a known Muslim Brotherhood front group which also runs the so-called “9/11 mosque” in the Washington area, Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center.

Ilya Feoktistov, director of research for Americans for Peace and Tolerance, said that by ignoring ISB’s well-documented ties to terrorists, Warren is serving as an “enabler” of jihad.

Why is Boston the Hub of Violent Islamic Extremism?

12 terroristsNER, by Jerry Gordon, June 4, 2015:

When we posted on ISIS-Inspired terrorism in Boston and vicinity, we wrote:

Two news stories have suddenly brought attention to ISIS-inspired terrorism in Boston and vicinity. One involved ISIS –inspired suspects plotting to behead police officers resulting in one killed in a shooting incident and two others arrested by Boston area police. The second involves the death of an American citizen in an air attack in Iraq’s Anbar province who was technically educated and radicalized at Mosques in the Boston area.   He fled the US to ultimately become one of the top leaders in ISIS running their highly effective social media propaganda arm.

The second story demonstrated why, in the opinion of colleague Ilya Feoktistov of Americans for Peace and Tolerance (APT), the Boston area has nurtured dangerous Jihadis fomenting violent “Islamic” extremism.  We included in our post a YouTube  video  with APT Research Director Feoktistov interviewed on these emerging story on New England Cable News (NECN) with particular attention to the late  ISIS top social media expert, Ahmad Abousamra, a dual Syrian American citizen and educated computer science professional who fled to join the Islamic State.  Feoktistov connected the dots between Ahmad’s father, Dr. Abdulbadi Abousamra, an endocrinologist, who established a network of Muslim Brotherhood controlled mosques radiating from theIslamic Society of Boston Cultural Center, including the Islamic Center of New England in suburban Sharon, Massachusetts.  We noted the father recruiting Mohammed Hafiz Masood, a Pakistani Imam with radical extremist vie to become the Imam at ICNE. Masood had family connections to the Pakistani terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba  that perpetrated the 2008 Mumbai Massacre. The Imam may have been responsible for radicalization of Islamic State top social media expert, the late Ahmad Abousamra.  Masood, who graduated from Boston University with a degree in Economics, was subsequently deported to Pakistan for immigration visa violations.

Watch the NECN interview with APT Research Director Feoktistov:

During the NECN interview, a poster of a dozen Muslim Brotherhood (MB) extremists connected with both the ISBCC, its affiliated Cambridge Mosque was flashed on screen to make a point of “connecting the dots”.  The APT graphic displays those members and trustees of the ISBCC and ICNE who were trustees or Members of the MB and ISIS, convicted or killed or still at large.  The Cambridge Mosque, affiliated with ISBCC, was attended by convicted terrorism felons including Pakistani Al Qaeda bio warfare expert, Aafia Siddiqui, Tarek Mehanna and the Chechen refugee Tsarneav Brothers who perpetrated the Boston Marathon Bombing.

Our colleague, Jonna Bianco of the Tennessee Task Force on National and Homeland Security (TTFNHS) sent our post on the Boston web of violent Islamic extremism via email to every member of the Tennessee Assembly with this   statement:

Ladies and Gentlemen:

The incident yesterday is its own Security Brief.  If measures are not currently being taken to deal with these kinds of “connect the dots” dangers, we will be experiencing the same sorts of incidents right here in our state.  These same organizations exist in Tennessee connected to some of these same people. You should read this article and note how the people who lead and protect bad actors are not poor people just needing a job.  The father of the ISIS leader killed recently overseas is an Endocrinologist.  The ISIS leader himself had a degree in Computer Science.  These folks do not need jobs.  They need deportation papers, if not prison for material support of terrorism in the United States.  We have some of the same people right here in our state.

If you think this is much ado about nothing, then please contact the Task Force for a personal Security Briefing.  We’ll show you a lot of ‘nothing.’

Ms. Bianco and colleagues at the TTFHNS found the evidence of violent extremist jihadism spawned by the Muslim Brotherhood mosque network in Boston, with evidence of connections to the Islamic State, compelling enough to notify all state legislators in Tennessee.  Other likeminded groups should consider sending this post to every legislator in their respective home states.  FBI Director James Comey should task every Joint Terrorism Task Force across the country to investigate extremist Mosques and Imams.  Especially Muslim Brotherhood controlled Mosques indoctrinating American Muslim youths to join up and fight with the Islamic State, only to return and wreak havoc in our midst.

Bank Records Reveal Saudi Elites Gave Millions to Boston Marathon Bombers’ Mosque

Breitbart, by ILYA FEOKTISTOV, March 9, 2015:

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, currently on trial for terrorism charges from his role in the Boston Marathon bombings, prayed at the Islamic Society of Boston (ISB) mosque in Cambridge, MA, which was founded by an Al Qaeda operative and funded with money from Saudi Arabia. According to Newsweek, the Tsarnaev brothers became radicalized after they started to attend this mosque.

Across the Charles River in Boston, the Islamic Society of Boston (ISB) also operates the largest mosque on the Eastern Seaboard, the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center. It, too, was in large part established with money from Saudi Arabian elites. Indeed, former Saudi Minister of Petroleum Zaki Yamani gave the keynote speech at the celebration marking the transfer of public City of Boston land to the ISB to build its mega-mosque. Boston gave the ISB the land for less than 10% of its market value.

Now, for the first time, our organization, Americans for Peace and Tolerance (APT) is making publicly available the names of wealthy Saudi and Gulf sources who together paid for over $8.6 million of the ISBCC mega-mosque’s $15.6 million price tag.

The Saudi donation records were recovered from the Islamic Society of Boston’s direct bank records, which were turned over to APT under court order during the ISB’s lawsuit against its critics for libel. The ISB was forced to drop the lawsuit after the lawsuit discovery process started revealing more and more of its connections to Islamic extremism and terrorism. A listing of donor names, donation dates, and dollar amounts, as well as the raw financial records in pdf form are included in this release. The records span the years 2000-2007, during which the ISBCC mosque was being built. There are multiple questionable Saudi and Gulf sources among these documents.

Among the donors to the ISB and its directors is Saudi Prince Bandar Bin Sultan. Earlier this month, in a lawsuit launched by 9/11 victims’ families against the Saudi government, Zacaraias Moussaoui, the would-be twelfth hijacker in the 9/11 attacks, gave sworn testimony in which he alleged that Prince Bandar was also a donor to Al Qaeda.

Another donation to the ISB came from a Kuwaiti charity called Lajnat al Daawa al Islamiyya, a US Government designated terrorist entity whose Peshawar offices in Pakistan were once run by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks.

The largest source of Saudi funding for the ISB comes from the family fortune of Walid Fitaihi. A member of one of the wealthiest Saudi families, Walid Fitaihi also sits on the ISB’s Board of Trustees and is therefore one of the legal owners of both the ISBCC and the ISB Cambridge mosques. Fitaihi has written articles in Arabic-language newspapers expressing anti-Semitic sentiment. Writing in the London-based “Al-Sharq al Awsat” on October 18, 2000, Fitaihi prophesized that Jews will be:

[S]courged [because of their] oppression, murder, and rape of the worshippers of Allah…They have perpetrated the worst of evils and they have brought the worst corruption to the earth, and what we see of them these days is glad tidings for the Muslim heralding the fulfillment of Allah’s promise of victory after the second transgression.

Fitaihi and his father gave $2,387,025 to the ISB.

The Islamic Society of Boston received $1,000,000 from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). At the time of the donation to the Islamic Society of Boston, the majority of the IDB’s funds were contributed by the governments of Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Libya – all countries with long-standing links to international terrorism. At the beginning of the Second Intifada, the IDB was involved in financing Hamas and PLO terrorism, including sending payments to families of Palestinian suicide bombers, through its management of the Al Quds and Al Aqsa Funds. In August 2001, the Arab daily Al Sharq Al Awsat reported that the IBD, led by its President Ahmad Muhammad Ali, supervises the Funds, which it characterized as supporting the Intifada. The paper also reported that the “IDB chief said there was no delay in paying financial assistance to the families of Palestinian martyrs.”

The National Commercial Bank (NCB) of Saudi Arabia sent $50,000 to the ISB. The NCB was founded by Khalid Bin Mahfouz, also the founder and prime benefactor of the specially-designated terrorist entity, Muaffaq Foundation. According to the U.S. Government, a 1998 audit found that the NCB funneled $3 million to Osama Bin Laden through the Muaffaq Foundation.

The Arab Bank gave the ISB $1,500. In a landmark judgment in September 2014, a New York jury found the Arab Bank liable for knowingly supporting and being complicit in at least two dozen Hamas terrorist attacks around Israel.

Since the early days of Al Qaeda, the majority of funding for radical Islamist causes around the globe have originated from Saudi Arabia — not primarily from the government itself, but rather from wealthy private individuals, financial institutions, and charities based in the Kingdom and in nearby Gulf countries. This continues to be the case today, even though the Saudi government itself has, over the last few years, pulled back on its support for radical Islamist groups across the militancy spectrum from the Muslim Brotherhood to the Islamic State. Riyadh is simply alarmed by potential blowback the Islamists pose to Saudi security.

There are many other members of the Saudi “one percenter” elite on the list of the Islamic Society of Boston donors. Research into their backgrounds is ongoing and crowdsourced research is more than welcome.

The Saudi society that these elites control is a deeply repressive and backward one. It is a society that publicly beheads people in the streets and has made a blogger who was critical of Saudi society face the death penalty for apostasy.

Saudi elites don’t practice moderate Islam and they don’t fund moderate mosques. It is therefore not surprising that the Islamic Society of Boston has been a source of extremism in the Cradle of Liberty, with 12 of its leaders or worshippers in jail, killed, or fugitives from the law due to their involvement in terrorism. Given the extremist Wahhabi form of Islam that the Saudi ruling elite have imposed on their people, it is about time we start asking what kind of Islam is being taught in a mosque built with their money.

UAE Designates CAIR and MAS as Terrorist Muslim Brotherhood groups: Will US Dare Follow?

United Arab Emirates

United Arab Emirates

NER, By Jerry Gordon:

This weekend the United Arab Emirates (UAE) designated al Qaeda, Islamic State,  Islamic Relief and Muslim Brotherhood (MB) affiliates as terrorist organizations.  Among the latter were American MB groups, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR)  and the Muslim American Society (MAS). CAIR postures itself as a Muslim civil rights group.  The MAS has concentrated on controlling Mosques with Imams holding extremists views such as the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center  (ISBCC). ISBCC mosques nurtured several convicted  jihadist terrorists including  surviving  Boston Marathon bomber, Dzhokhar Tsarneav .  The current Imam at the ISBCC, Suhaib Webb, a former Oklahoma prison convert to Islam was the Imam at theIslamic Center of Greater Oklahoma City (ICGOC).  Another prison convert to Islam, Alton Nolen aka Jah’Keem Yisrael,  attended the ICGOC before his horrific beheaded a fellow woman employee at a Moore, Oklahoma food processing company.  See our NER article, Oklahoma Beheading Raises Questions about Prison Conversions and American Muslim Leadership.

What is interesting about the UAE move is that many of the MB affiliates in America have been funded by wealthy individuals from the Gulf States and Saudi Arabia.

Steve Emerson’s The Investigative Project reported on the UAE development, “UAE Designates CAIR, MAS as Terrorist Groups:”

The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) cabinet approved a comprehensive list of 83 designated terrorist organizations Saturday, the WAM Emirates News Agency reports. The list includes various al-Qaeda affiliates and the Islamic State.

But the UAE also considers the Muslim Brotherhood and some of its global affiliates as terrorist organizations. The list includes the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Muslim American Society (MAS).

The UAE action follows a decision last spring to follow Saudi Arabia’s decision to label the Egyptian-based Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization. CAIR officials previously traveled to the UAE on fundraising missions, State Department records obtained by the Investigative Project on Terrorism show.

Buzz Feed reported  reaching out to CAIR in Washington, DC and got this response:

The Council on American-Islamic Relations is calling on the United Arab Emirates to delist it as a terrorist group. The Muslim American Society also said it was “shocked” by the move and would seek U.S. government assistance.

The CAIR statement released yesterday disavowed any terrorist connections:

We are seeking clarification from the government of the United Arab Emirates about this shocking and bizarre report. There is absolutely no factual basis for the inclusion of CAIR and other American and European civil rights and advocacy groups on this list.

Like the rest of the mainstream institutions representing the American Muslim community, CAIR’s advocacy model is the antithesis of the narrative of violent extremists.

We call on the United Arab Emirates cabinet to review this list and remove organizations such as CAIR, the Muslim American Society and other civil society organizations that peacefully promote civil and democratic rights and that oppose terrorism whenever it occurs, wherever it occurs and whoever carries it out.

An earlier BuzzFeed News story noted CAIR’s inclusion among unindicted co-conspirators in the 2008 Federal Dallas Holy Land Foundation trial:

CAIR is a well-known American Muslim advocacy group, based in Washington. The FBI listed it as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 2008 trial of the Holy Land Foundation, which was later convicted of giving millions of dollars to Hamas. A federal judge later ruled that the government should not have included CAIR, which was never charged with a crime, in the list of unindicted co-conspirators.

Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR’s communications director, said the designation was “news to me” when asked by BuzzFeed News for comment this morning.

Au contraire, BuzzFeed, says the IPT:

FBI policy since 2008 has prohibited communicating with CAIR outside of criminal investigations. That decision was based on evidence in a terror-financing prosecution in Dallas which placed CAIR and its founders in a Muslim Brotherhood Hamas support network called the Palestine Committee. “[U]ntil we can resolve whether there continues to be a connection between CAIR or its executives and HAMAS, the FBI does not view CAIR as an appropriate liaison partner,” Assistant FBI Director Richard Powerswrote in 2009.

The Muslim American Society (MAS) also serves as a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood in America. A 2004 Chicago Tribune story describes how MAS was formed as the Brotherhood’s U.S. arm after a debate about whether to stay underground. In 2012 testimony, Abdurahman Alamoudi, once the most politically influential Islamist activist in the country, said the connection between MAS and the Brotherhood was well known in Islamist circles.

We note that  convicted federal felon Alamoudi and exiled anti-Semitic and anti-American Egyptian MB preacher, Yusuf al Qaradawi living in Qatar, were both trustees of the ISBCC.

We wonder how the US State Department will handle this hot potato?  Will they endeavor to avoid following the lead of the UAE designating MB affiliates in the US as terrorist organizations?

CAIR Openly Attacks Moderate Muslim Group

There’s a power struggle in the Muslim world— between the moderates and the Islamists, including in America — and CAIR intends to win.

FaarooqIP

From a video of Abdullah Faarooq, an imam at the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center.

By Ryan Mauro:

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is yet again undermining its own “moderate” credentials by slamming its Muslim rivals (and true moderates) for being part of an “Islamophobia” network and exposing its own Islamist agenda in the meantime.

In its latest newsletter, CAIR promotes — as the top item — an article on how its rival, the American Islamic Congress (AIC) is funded by “America’s Islamophobia network.”

CAIR quotes from the article, “Despite its claim to promote tolerance, the AIC has depended on substantial support from the very same elements that fought tooth and nail to sabotage the Islamic Society of Boston …”

As reported by the Clarion Project, the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center has strong Muslim Brotherhood ties and its extremism is well documented. Any moderate Muslim organization should have been fighting against it. A Muslim scholar recently talked with the Clarion Project about the radicalism he saw at the Islamic Society of Boston in 2003 and how he was sued by the mosque for speaking out.

CAIR calls itself “America’s largest Islamic civil liberties group.” The federal government has a different description of the group: An entity of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee and an unindicted co-conspirator in the terrorism-financing trial of the Holy Land Foundation.

CAIR, the “civil liberties group,” chose to attack the American Islamic Congress (AIC). CAIR’s priority wasn’t responding to a hate crime against an innocent Muslim, nor was it taking up the cause of Egyptian-Muslim protesters against the Muslim Brotherhood. Its priority was telling Muslims that the AIC is a traitor.

The article that CAIR is promoting was written by Max Blumenthal, a journalist who speaks at their events and lambasts CAIR’s opponents as “Islamophobes.” The opening of the article provides some insight into CAIR’s motivation.

It recalls how Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick replaced the imam of the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center with an AIC official at an interfaith service following the Boston bombings.

There is a wide opening for a group like AIC to compete with CAIR. A 2011 poll found that only 12% of Muslim-American males and 11% of females picked CAIR as the organization that most represents their interests. As I wrote after the poll was published, “only 24 percent of Muslim-American men and 19 percent of Muslim-American women feel represented” by the Muslim Brotherhood legacy groups altogether.

The AIC has offices in Washington D.C., Boston, Egypt, Iraq and Tunisia. According to Guidestar, its 2010 revenue was $1,434,830. This is dwarfed by CAIR’s reported revenue of $4,748,618 for 2011 (and that’s just for its national headquarters and not its allies or individual chapters), but it shows why it fears AIC’s ascent since its founding in 2002: It’s become a force to be reckoned with.
