UTT Throwback Thursday: Will New FBI Director Smash Jihadis in U.S.?

Understanding the Threat, by John Guandolo, May 10, 2017:

After 9/11, the only Islamic organizations the FBI conducted “outreach” with were known enemies of the United States – Muslim Brotherhood (MB), Hamas, and Al Qaeda.

While individual agents work diligently to protect their communities, the FBI’s strategic response to the Global Islamic Movement has been destructive and incoherent.

Here are a few of the hundreds of examples:

On February 13, 2002, FBI Director Robert Mueller met at FBIHQ with a group of “national leaders of Arabs, muslims, and Sikh organizations.”  All five (5) muslims present represented jihadi organizations.  Specifically, they were:   Nihad Awad, Executive Director of Hamas (dba CAIR) and the “Government Affairs Director” for Hamas (CAIR); two leaders from the Islamic Institute founded by Al Qaeda financier Abdurahman Alamoudi; one leader from the American Muslim Council founded by Al Qaeda financier Abdurahman Alamoudi; and the National Director of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Muslim Public Affairs Council.

In November 2005, Special Agent in Charge of the Washington Field Office Mike Rolince gave an award to jihadi Imam Mohamed Magid, who was the Vice President then President of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), identified by the Department of Justice as Muslim Brotherhood organization which funds the terrorist group Hamas.

The FBI publishes recruiting ads in Islamic Horizons, the monthly publication for ISNA. According to the Department of Justice, ISNA is a Muslim Brotherhood organization which funds the terrorist group Hamas.

In the FBI’s publication celebrating it’s 100th anniversary, the FBI allowed ISNA (terrorist funding MB organization) to take out a half-page ad congratulating the FBI and stating boldly, “ISNA – Leading the Way.”

On dozens of occasions since 2002, Hamas (dba CAIR) conducted sensitivity training for FBI agents around the country.

In March 2008, the FBI’s Deputy Assistant Director for Intelligence Tim Healy and the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office conducted “outreach” at the Muslim Brotherhood’s All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) Center in Sterling, Virginia, led by Imam Mohamed Magid, the former President of the largest Muslim Brotherhood organization in North America (ISNA) which finances the terrorist group Hamas.  During this outreach, the FBI leaders told the audience, “One of the things the FBI believes in is diversity,” and went on to say the FBI was working hard to hire more Muslims.

That same year – 2008 – FBI Director Mueller presented a “Director’s Award” to senior Muslim Brotherhood jurist Imam Yahya Hendi, who is not only the Imam of the MB’s Islamic Society of Frederick (MD) but also sits on the MB’s Fiqh Council of North America.

On February 8, 2012, FBI leaders – including FBI Director Robert Mueller – joined a number of Muslim Brotherhood groups (ISNA, MPAC, Muflehun) to discuss “inflammatory training” that “offends muslims.” The FBI leadership ensured the jihadis the FBI would do all they could to appease them – and they did. The FBI no longer teaches anything about sharia, the MB networks, or the Global Islamic Movement.

On June 13, 2013 FBI Director Robert Mueller testified before the Judiciary Committee about the Boston Marathon Bombing and admitted he did not know the mosque the Tsarnaev brothers attended – Islamic Society of Boston/ISB (Muslim Brotherhood) – was founded by Al Qaeda financier Abdurahman Alamoudi. Director Mueller defended not sending FBI agents to the ISB after the bombing because the FBI was there before the bombing doing “outreach” with the Imam.

See a short video of that exchange HERE.

In April 2016, the FBI’s Washington Field Office presented the “Director’s Award” to the Muslim Brotherhood’s ADAMS Center (VA).  On the same day, FBI Director James Comey presented the Director’s Award to jihadi Imam Mohamed Magid at FBI headquarters.

Today the FBI’s official outreach partners for the “Islamic” community only include Muslim Brotherhood organizations.  Specifically, the All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS), Muslim Advocates, and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC).

Is it any wonder that 100% of the members of the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) who attend Understanding the Threat’s 3-day training program universally state they have never heard the information presented, yet also state the information is “critical” to protecting their communities?

Is it any wonder the jihadis in the United States feel emboldened to confront elected officials, law enforcement leaders and others to “demand” such training be shut down because it “offends” them?

Is it any wonder that nearly all of the Islamic jihadis who have acted and killed in the name of Islam in the United States have been interviewed by the FBI, under investigation but deemed “not a threat,” or simply dismissed as having “mental issues?”

The FBI is in need of a bold and aggressive Director who will use the full power of the Bureau to destroy the Islamic Movement and its supporters in the hard-left socialist Movement to restore law and order in our Republic.

Muslim Brotherhood an ‘incubator’ for U.S. terror

A CAIR ad strikes a decidedly peaceful tone, but its real agenda is to influence American society in favor of Islamism. The federal government identified CAIR as an entity of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee, a secret body set up to advance Hamas’ agenda.

WND, by Leo Hohmann, May 1, 2017:

An Islamist is an Islamist is an Islamist – and just because movements like the Muslim Brotherhood preach non-violence does not mean they are entirely peaceful, because they just may be poisoning the minds of the next generation of jihadists.

That’s the finding of a new study that traces the development of 100 prominent jihadists within the global Islamic movement.

Half of the jihadists profiled by Centre on Religion & Geopolitics had ties to supposedly non-violent Islamists, but they easily made the transition to the dark side in which they targeted innocent civilians with bombs, bullets or blades.

The term “Islamist” is used to describe supporters of fundamentalist Islam who are working toward the implementation of Shariah law, whether by peaceful or violent means.

But the study’s authors – in exploring “pathways to militancy” among 100 prominent Islamic terrorists – found there is often a fine line that separates the two sides of the Islamist coin.

The 100 men studied all have their ethnic roots in the Middle East and Africa but span multiple generations. The authors found that ties to non-violent Islamist organizations can often influence a person’s trajectory toward terrorism.

This is where individuals get schooled in the ideological principles of Shariah and jihad before “graduating” to the next level of actually carrying out attacks, according to the study.

A majority, 51 percent, of the terrorists under study were previously connected to Islamist groups that claim to be non-violent, including “bodies that are not necessarily political activist organizations but form a functioning arm of existing Islamist groups, such as youth wings, student associations, and other societies.”

Senior al-Qaida leaders, including Osama bin Laden, Khalid Sheik Muhammad, Anwar al-Awlaki and current head man Ayman al-Zawihiri were all involved with or direct members of the Muslim Brotherhood before they became terrorist kingpins.

The Trump administration, after first signaling it would declare the Muslim Brotherhood a foreign terrorist organization, backed off once Trump took office. A report last month by the Washington Times said Trump has decided to heed the advice of the U.S. State Department and the King of Jordan to not go after the Brotherhood.

One in four of the jihadists examined had ties to the Muslim Brotherhood or one of its front groups.

“Our data links the leaders of Jabhat al-Nusra and ISIS today to the forefathers of the movement through people they met in prison, at university, and on the battlefield,” write the authors.

Steven Emerson, publisher of the Investigative Project on Terrorism.

Steve Emerson, executive director of the Investigative Project on Terrorism, said the findings support the theory that non-violent Islamist groups “not only serve as potential incubators for radicalization and violence.”

They also continue to engage in violent incitement, encouraging others to carry out terrorist attacks, Emerson said.

It is the failure to recognize the role of non-violent jihadists that causes the FBI and other law enforcement agencies to lose the battle against terrorists, contends John Guandolo, a former FBI counter-terrorism specialist.

John Guandolo

One lesson from the recent debacle in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in which former Saudi resident Ehab Jaber was allowed to threaten a Christian conference while brandishing five guns and 1,200 rounds of ammo, brought to center stage is that many leaders cannot discern friend from foe in the war against an energized Islamic movement, Guandolo said.

“This exposes Americans to greater danger each day,” he said on his blog, Understanding the Threat.

Here are a few examples Guandolo cites:

  • Abdurabman Alamoudi was the most prominent Islamic leader in the United States in the 1990s. He founded or led major Islamic organizations, including the Muslim Student Association. He created the Muslim chaplain program for the Department of Defense, was a “Goodwill Ambassador” for the State Department and was the Islamic adviser to President Clinton. The Washington Post called him the “pillar” of the Islamic community in Washington, D.C. In 2003, Alamoudi was arrested at Heathrow Airport in London with $340,000 cash he received from the Libyan government for the global jihad. As the U.S. government later admitted, Alamoudi was a financier for al-Qaida. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison. The sentence was reduced under President Obama’s administration by six years. He will be released in three years. None of the men or women working directly with Alamoudi have been prosecuted.
  • Mohamed Magid holds a secret clearance and, until recently, sat on the Homeland Security Advisory Committee. He worked directly with the last several secretaries of state, receiving awards from the FBI and lectures at CIA headquarters. He worked with the Obama administration and was publicly lauded by the president’s deputy national security adviser, Denis McDonough. Until 2014, Magid was the president of the largest Islamic organization in U.S., the Islamic Society of North America, or ISNA – which also happens to be, according to the Department of Justice, a Muslim Brotherhood organization that directly funds the terrorist group Hamas. Magid was recently given another award by FBI Director James Comey.

Imam Mohamed Magid at National Prayer Service held at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 21, 2017

  • Anwar al-Awlaki was called the “new face of moderate Islam” by some in the media, including NPR and PBS. He gave lectures inside the U.S. Capitol about Islam’s prophet Muhammad and spoke at the Pentagon while he was served as imam of the Dar al Hijra Islamic Center in Virginia. This “moderate” Muslim was killed in September 2011 by a U.S. drone strike because he was the leader of al-Qaida in Yemen.

Anwar al-Awlaki was an American-born imam of Yemeni descent who was ordered killed in a drone strike by President Obama.

  • Suhail Khan works for Microsoft and has been given access to inner circles of the Republican Party. On Sept. 11, 2001, he was working at the White House. His lead advocate is Republican strategist Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform. A number of Republicans have stepped up to defend Khan, including leaders of the American Conservative Union. Khan served for two successive secretaries of transportation under the Bush administration and held a secret clearance. Khan is the son of one of the most influential Muslim Brotherhood leaders in the U.S. ISNA has an annual award named after his father. Khan publicly lauds his deceased father and proudly proclaims the mantra that Muslims love death more than unbelievers love life.
  • Siraj Wahhaj was the first imam to offer prayers inside the U.S. House of Representatives. Wahhaj is an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and was a character witness for the Blind Sheik, convicted for his part in a number of terrorist plots in the U.S.
  • On any given day, Nihad Awad can be found walking the halls of Congress, on CNN or Fox News programs, or meeting with Christian or Jewish leaders around the nation as a part of “outreach.” Local and national media promote Awad’s organization, the Council on American Islamic Relations, or CAIR, as a “civil rights organization,” and they go to great lengths to defend the group. The Justice Department identifies CAIR as a member of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee, which is Hamas. Awad is the leader of Hamas in the U.S. and – in UTT’s opinion – is also the guide/leader of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.CAIR has sued the authors of a WND Books exposé, “Muslim Mafia: Inside the Secret Underworld That’s Conspiring to Islamize America,” which documented the group’s radical ties. A trial in the case is expected to commence this fall.

“American citizens, your leaders across the board, of both political parties, have proven they are incapable of discerning friend from foe,” Guandolo concludes. “This war will be won at the local level or it will be lost. Local sheriffs and pastors are the key.”

UTT Throwback Thursday: Leaders Unable to Tell Friend from Foe

Understanding the Threat, by John Guandolo, April 27, 2017:

One lesson the recent debacle in Sioux Falls brought to center stage is that many leaders cannot discern friend from foe in the war against the Islamic Movement.  This exposes Americans to greater danger each day.

Here are a few examples:

Abdurabman Alamoudi was the most prominent Islamic leader in the United States in the 1990’s, and founded or led major Islamic organizations, including the Muslim Students Association.  He created the Muslim Chaplain program for the Department of Defense, was a “Goodwill Ambassador” for the State Department, and was the Islamic Advisor to President Clinton.  The Washington Post called him the “pillar” of the Islamic community in Washington, D.C.

In 2003, Alamoudi was arrested at Heathrow Airport in London, England with $340,000 cash he received from the Libyan government for the global jihad.  As the US government publicly stated, Alamoudi was a financier for Al Qaeda.  He was sentenced to 23 years in prison – the sentence was reduced under President Obama’s administration by 6 years.  He will be released in 3 years.

None of the men or women working directly with Alamoudi have been prosecuted.

Mohamed Magid holds a secret clearance and, until recently sat on the Homeland Security Advisory Committee. He worked directly with the last several Secretaries of State, receives awards from the FBI, lectures at CIA headquarters, worked with the Obama administration, and was publicly lauded by the President’s Deputy National Security Advisor – Denis McDonough.  Until 2014, Magid was the President of the largest Islamic organization in North America, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) – which also happens to be, according to the Department of Justice, a Muslim Brotherhood organization which directly funds the terrorist group Hamas.

Magid was recently given another award by FBI Director James Comey.

Anwar al Awlaki was called the “new face of moderate Islam” by some in the media, like NPR and PBS.  He gave lectures inside the US Capitol about Islam’s prophet Mohammad and spoke at the Pentagon while he was the Imam of a Hamas mosque in Virginia – the Dar al Hijra Islamic Center.  This “moderate” muslim was killed in September 2011 by a US drone strike because he was the leader of Al Qaeda in Yemen.

On any given day, Nihad Awad can be found walking the halls of Congress, on CNN or Fox News programs (like the O’Reilly Factor when it was on the air) or meeting with Christian or Jewish leaders around the nation as a part of “outreach.”  Local and and national media fall over themselves to promote Awad’s organization, the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), as a “civil rights organization” and they go to great lengths to defend them.

The US Department of Justice identifies CAIR as a member of the US Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee, which is Hamas.  CAIR is Hamas.  Nihad Awad is the leader Hamas in the United States and – in UTT’s professional opinion – is also the General Masul (Guide/Leader) of the US Muslim Brotherhood.

American citizens, your leaders across the board – of both political parties – have proven they are incapable of discerning friend from foe.

As UTT continues to restate:  this war will be won at the local level or it will be lost.  Local Sheriffs and pastors are the key.  Get to work educating them.  UTT stands ready to help.

UTT Throwback Thursday: Virginia – From Jefferson to Jihad Loving

Understanding the Threat, by John Guandolo, February 9, 2017:

The home of Thomas Jefferson is under assault again – this time it is by Virginia’s leaders who are more concerned with being liked by America’s enemies than with doing their duty in their official capacities, and Muslim leaders who lie about their true intentions.

From the Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin Roessler – who feels it necessary to assuage the feelings of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Muslim American Society (see screen capture below) – to Congresswoman Barbara Comstock, Virginia Republican Chairman John Whitbeck, Virginia Delegate Sam Rasoul and others speaking at Muslim Brotherhood (MB) venues like the ADAMS Center, to Virginia Delegate John Bell falling over himself to praise senior Hamas/MB leader Imam Mohamed Magid, Virginia’s leaders are proving to be useful tools for our enemies.

The ADAMS Center was founded by Ahmad Totonji, one of the original Muslim Brotherhood leaders in the United States.  ADAMS prominently displayed its affiliation with the MB’s ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) on its website.  ISNA is identified by the MB as the “nucleus” of their Islamic Movement in North America in their own documents, and identified by the U.S. government as an MB organization which funded the terrorist organization Hamas in the largest terrorism financing and Hamas trial ever successfully prosecuted in American history (US v HLF, Dallas, 2008).

All Virginia officials should be aware, the above comments refer to EVIDENCE in the largest terrorism financing trial ever successfully prosecuted in American history.  The people they are hanging out with are called “Jihadis” or “terrorists” if you prefer.

And these jihadis lie in order to build relationships with people of influence and then use the relationships to further their cause.  This way, when people who speak truth about the Islamic threat step forward, it is the Fairfax  County Police Chief, a member of Congress, a Virginia delegate, a pastor, or someone else in the community who speaks out so the jihadis don’t have to.

This is called Civilization Jihad by OUR hands.  The Muslim Brotherhood gets our leaders to do their bidding for them.

VA Delegate Sam Rasoul (standing) at MB’s ISNA w/ National Director Sayyid Syeed (seated, 2nd fr RT)

Virginia officials have a responsibility and duty to know this, and Virginians have the right to know their leaders are not conspiring with and aiding and abetting America’s enemies.

U.S. Congressman Gerry Connolly held a fundraiser in 2014 coordinated by Muslim Brotherhood leaders. America’s enemies are raising money for Congressman Connolly?  That speaks volumes of how helpful he must be to their cause.

Former Virginia Governor now U.S. Senator Tim Kaine actually gave a Lifetime Achievement Award to Jamal Barzinji, one of the original founding members of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood who created and founded their first organizations in the United States.  Barzinji is now deceased, but Kaine is very much alive continuing to aid and abet Hamas/MB organizations and leaders.

Senator Kaine also worked closely with Hamas/MB leader Esam Omeish and appointed him to the Virginia Immigration Commission.  A perfect place for a suit-wearing jihadi to be…if we want to lose the war.

Virginia’s Republicans and Democrats seem to be incapable of reading, processing facts/evidence, and making decisions that comport with federal law and the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and simple good judgment.

Virginia residents may not want to look to the Virginia Legislature for help since it passed a Resolution in March 2014 – led by Delegate Alfonzo Lopez – praising one of the most prominent Hamas/Muslim Brotherhood mosques in the United States – the Dar al Hijra Islamic Center.  Dar al Hijra was founded by Jamal Barzinji, and their original title was held by NAIT (North American Islamic Trust) – the Muslim Brotherhood’s bank in North America.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s By-Laws state their purpose is to establish sharia in the land, and that Muslims “must be fully prepared to fight the tyrants and enemies of Allah as a prelude to establishing an Islamic state.”

Again, this is all called EVIDENCE for those keeping track.  Good luck Virginians.

Thomas Jefferson, who waged the first war America fought after the Revolution against the Muslims of the Barbary States, must be rolling over in his grave.

Officials Reveal America’s National Security is “Controlled” by the Jihadists

2211774854

Understanding the Threat, by John Guandolo, June 20, 2016:

Two former U.S. government officials made explosive revelations on national radio this past Friday including the charge the U.S. government is a “tool” for the jihadi movement here, and that the driving force behind America’s domestic counter-terrorism strategies and our foreign policy is the Muslim Brotherhood (MB).

President Obama with Muslim Brotherhood/Hamas leader (Islamic Society of North America) Imam Mohamed Magid of the ADAMS Center in Sterling, Virginia

President Obama with Muslim Brotherhood/Hamas leader (Islamic Society of North America) Imam Mohamed Magid of the ADAMS Center in Sterling, Virginia

The exchange took place on the Sean Hannity radio program between the host, Philip Haney (former DHS law enforcement officer with Customs and Border Protection) and Richard Higgins (a former leader inside the Department of Defense who managed programs at the Combating Terrorism and Technical Support Office (CTTSO) and Irregular Warfare Section).

Both Mr. Haney and Mr. Higgins revealed there is a massive Muslim Brotherhood movement in the United States, and made clear the MB’s influence is so significant they control how the issue of terrorism is discussed and how it is handled at the national security level.

Hillary Clinton and closest aide Huma Abedin, who is an operative for the MB Movement

When asked about language being scrubbed from the U.S. government Mr. Higgins responded by saying, “What (leaders in the US government) are actually scrubbing is any references to the Islamic doctrine that would allow us to define who is or who is not actually one of our enemies.”

He went on to say, “When you look at the deliberate decision-making process of the United States government as it relates to radical Islam, that deliberate decision-making process is controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood.  And the way they control it is by prohibiting US national security personnel from ever developing an understanding to the level where Phil (Haney) had it.”

MB/Hamas Leader Imam Magid with the President’s Chief of Staff and Former Deputy National Security Advisor Denis McDonough

MB/Hamas Leader Imam Magid with the President’s Chief of Staff and Former Deputy National Security Advisor Denis McDonough

More precisely Mr. Higgins said, “To bring it back to the point earlier about the United States being put to work fulfilling the objectives of the Brotherhood:  the Brotherhood was killed en masse by Saddam Hussein – we removed him.  Qaddafi killed the Muslim Brotherhood – we removed him. We asked Mubarak to go. We are their instrument because they control our deliberate decision-making process.”

UTT has written about the willful surrender to our enemies by American leaders here, here, and here.

Former DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano swearing in MB Leader Mohamed Elibiary to the DHS Advisory Committee

Former DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano swearing in MB Leader Mohamed Elibiary to the DHS Advisory Committee

With regard to the Marxist/Socialist collaboration with the Muslim Brotherhood – as UTT has detailed via the Black Lives Matter/Hamas relationship – Mr. Higgins warned, “Every time one of these attacks happens in the United States, you see the Left in unison with the Muslim Brotherhood immediately respond with direct attacks on the First and Second Amendments.  That is not by accident, and we are going to continue to see that.”

Philip Haney’s story is devastating to hear because he publicly states he was ordered by DHS supervisors to remove the names of terrorists and terrorist organizations from DHS databases which he inputted through the course of investigations he was conducting.

This is a violation of the law.  The names removed included several known Muslim Brotherhood organizations in the U.S.

His story can be found here or here, and his powerful new book See Something, Say Nothing is now available.

Mr. Haney reiterated what UTT has been teaching and publishing for years:  “The gravitational force of the Global Islamic Movement is not radicalization, the gravitational force of the Global Islamic Movement is the implementation of sharia Law.”

It’s all about sharia.

Both Mr. Higgins and Mr. Haney made it clear the jihadi threat to America must be addressed immediately or we will suffer significant consequences for our inaction and for allowing our leaders to surrender their duties to our enemies.

Philip Haney said it best when he articulated, “This is the first and foremost obligation of the U.S. government:  to protect it’s citizens from a threat, both foreign and domestic.  And I can also tell you that if we don’t address it voluntarily with courage and conviction now, we’re going to be addressing it involuntarily, and we are going to be at a much greater disadvantage than we already are right now.”

The full audio for the show can be found HERE and the discussion with Mr. Haney and Mr. Higgins begins at approximately minute 14.

Pakistani liberal to American panel “You are going to get me killed”

comic3Conference Examines Islamic Blasphemy Law Dangers

Religious Freedom Coalition, by Andrew Harrod, Phd., June 3, 2016:

“You are going to get me killed…I have got my flight back home,” stated Pakistani religious freedom advocate Arafat Mazhar to an audience questioner at an April 20 Georgetown University conference recently made available online.  His jarring response emphasized that the conference’s examination of Islamic blasphemy norms in Pakistan and the world beyond was no mere academic matter but involves global, often lethal, threats to freedom of speech and religion.

Mazhar’s statement occurred during the conference’s afternoon panel in an exchange with an audience member from Afghanistan studying in America.  Mazhar emphasized that his organization Engage Pakistan currently only supports reforming the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s notorious blasphemy laws with theological arguments such that these laws would not have a divine status.  Any abolition of these laws, a proposition that has had deadly consequences for Pakistan’s Punjab provincial governor Salman Taseer and Federal Minister for Minority Affairs Shahbaz Bhatti, would be a much longer term goal.

Just as illuminating and disturbing was Mazhar’s Afghan interlocutor who cited a 2015 Afghan incident in which a mob brutally killed a woman accused of burning a Quran.  “Had there been a good anti-blasphemy law” with codified standards, he suggested, “she would not have been killed that viciously.”  On the basis of such conjectured more humane executions he accordingly asked, “Is it a good idea to get rid of the anti-blasphemy law or is it good to have a good law?”

Mazhar responded that empirical evidence contradicted such arguments previously made in favor of Pakistan’s blasphemy laws.  From Pakistan’s 1947 independence to the 1986 completion of these laws, Islamic blasphemy accusations caused only four extrajudicial killings, but after 1986 these killings increased by 2,500 percent.  His fellow panelist, University of Notre Dame professor Daniel Philpott, noted that Pew studies had found that blasphemy laws had a perverse “pedagogical effect” in inciting hostility towards the protected faith’s opponents real or imagined.

Ambassador Alberto Fernandez, a retired American career diplomat, concurred on the panel that blasphemy laws are “like handing a loaded gun” to people.  He cited a 2005 Sudan case where the government had dropped charges of insulting religion against a newspaper editor, but outraged mobs still demanded retribution.  Months later his beheaded corpse turned up after a kidnapping.

Former Pakistani parliamentarian and human rights advocate Farahnaz Ispahani likewise stated during the earlier lunch panel that blasphemy laws in her country “enabled a vigilante culture.”  Her fellow panelist, Mazhar’s Engage Pakistan colleague Ayesha Iftikhar, stated that there “you can become a hero just because you went after someone for blasphemy.”  Ispahani described how blasphemy laws abetted the “purification of Pakistan” such that only three percent of Pakistan’s population now belongs to non-Sunni Muslim religious minorities, down from 23 percent in 1947.

Ispahani noted that blasphemy’s culture of incitement extended to popular Pakistani television programs watched by millions nationwide.  Here Muslim clerics had called for the killing of Ahmadiyya, a small Muslim sect deemed heretical by all other Muslim denominations.  Her fellow panelist, Imam Mohamed Magid, and Asma Uddin, an American Muslim religious freedom advocate and lawyer who had appeared on the morning panel, had both referenced public order justifications for Islamic blasphemy laws.  Yet such considerations apparently only operated in one direction, Ispahani observed, protecting the sensibilities of Muslims for fear of their possible violent reactions while allowing these very same Muslims uninhibited hate.

Appearing with Uddin, Hudson Institute religious freedom expert Nina Shea analyzed Islamic blasphemy law threats to Muslims and non-Muslims alike.  “These blasphemy laws imprison Muslims in a suffocating chamber of blind dogmatism and conformity and extremists are given the last word” while Muslim dissidents and reformers face dangers including death.  “The West’s response has been less than inspiring, the West has tended to indulge these laws” by encompassing their content within hate speech laws, as five convictions in France of actress Brigette Bardot indicate.   In the United States, “Al Capone-like underlying issues” brought a year-long prison sentence to the filmmaker who violated his parole terms while producing Innocence of Muslims, an internet film that enraged Muslims worldwide.

Shea noted especially the previously obscure Florida pastor Terry Jones, who ultimately made good on his 2010 announcement to burn ceremoniously a Quran, thereby provoking Senator Lindsey Graham to propose speech restrictions.  “The United States did not handle that particularly well.  There was a parade of generals and government officials that went public and denounced him, begged him to stop,” Shea stated.  “This is extremely dangerous, because it raises expectations that the state, that is the American government, will regulate expression on behalf of religion, and in particular one religion.”

The controversial Magid, past president of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB)-linked Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), tried to present a benign understanding of his faith.  Like afternoon panelist Salam Al-Marayati, head of the equally MB-linked Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), Magid cited the oft-invokedQuran 2:256 (“no compulsion…in the religion”) and the Medina Charter.  Recently celebrated in theMarrakesh Declaration, an attempt to justify religious freedom on the basis of Islamic sources, this charter of Islam’s prophet Muhammad supposedly “created a pluralistic society” according to Magid.

Magid emphasized Islamic orthodoxy because the “word reform itself triggers negative thoughts in Muslims.”  The best approach for winning Muslim hearts and minds is therefore to “take it back to the Prophet.  Not reforming, reinforcing the original framework,” he stated, as the “message of Islam is spread through compassion.”  He argued that Muhammad did not use force when opponents hurled insults and trash at him or Muslims apostatized.

It’s Time for Candidates to Discuss the Enemy Within

EgyptElectionsConservative Review, by Daniel Horowitz, December 28th, 2015: (h/t @PoliticalShort)

When Congress returns in January, there will be a robust debate over the authorization of use of military force (AUMF) in Syria and Iraq to fight ISIS.  But while we debate a bunch of lousy options and the potential cost of lives and billions of dollars arming our enemies in endless Islamic civil wars, the politicians in both parties will never discuss the enemy within the United States.  This is where the presidential candidates must lead by example.

Donald Trump and Ted Cruz have already drawn attention to the first half of the homeland security threat – the endless migration from the Middle East as manifest through our suicidal immigration policies.  Unfortunately, Republicans didn’t listen, and despite the universally-accepted threat of the Syrian and Somali refugees, they gave Obama the full $1.67 billion for refugee resettlement in the Omnibus bill.

However, it is the second half of the equation – the most foundational threat to our homeland and society – that has garnered almost no attention from anyone in politics.  That is the threat of the Muslim Brotherhood organizations in America that have so much influence both on the Obama administration and the Muslim communities in our country.

Three questions should automatically come to mind in light of the San Bernardino attack and the nearly daily incidents of Muslims being arrested for plotting terror attacks or attempting to join ISIS.

  1. Why is our government expunging any mention of Islamic terror from their official documents and hampering investigations into connections to local radical Muslim Brotherhood groups?
  2. Why are so few moderate Muslims speaking out against the growing trend of radicalization?
  3. Why are so many Muslims in America, even those who were born here, being drawn into groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda?

The answer to all these questions, point to the Muslim Brotherhood and the influence of their three North American affiliates that were implicated in the Holy Land Foundation terror trial: the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), and the North American Islamic Trust.

Last Wednesday, I had the privilege of guest hosting the Sean Hannity show along with my colleague, Deneen Borelli, and we discussed why the Muslim Brotherhood represents a more foundational threat to our homeland than ISIS or Al Qaeda.  They are the enemy within that radicalizes American Muslims (the ones that weren’t already radicalized), marginalizes and intimidates moderates, and influences the government to eschew any policy that even mentions Islamic terror much less policies that actually combat Islamic terror.

[My segment on the Muslim Brotherhood can be found here.  You will hear national security expert, Patrick Poole, discuss how this problem started long before the Obama administration.]

This is why we need the GOP candidates to step up to the plate.  But until now they have largely been silent.  Ted Cruz has introduced an important piece of legislation, which would designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terror group, but he needs to make this issue more front and center in his campaign.

Just last week, U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron took the unprecedented step to designate the Muslim Brotherhood a terror group after his government launched an exhaustive study into their activities.  They will now ban visas to Muslim Brotherhood officials and increase surveillance of their offices.   If the liberal Europeans are willing to protect themselves and root out their enemy within, cannot our “conservative” leaders muster the same courage?

Not surprisingly, Obama condemned Cameron’s move as a needless de-legitimizing of a non-violent group.  But their use of “non-violent” means of subversion in western countries to marginalize moderates and quietly radicalize the Muslim communities and mosques is exactly what will destroy both America and Europe from the inside.

It was recently reported that the U.K. is experiencing a sharp drop off in cooperation from local Muslims in rooting out terrorists from their communities.  Undoubtedly, the Muslim Brotherhood intimidation is a big part of this deterrent against cooperating with the authorities.

Earlier this month, Phil Haney, a former DHS counterterrorism official, wrote an expose on how he was stifled from connecting the dots between some of the very same foreign terror groups Tafsheen Malik was affiliated with and local Muslim groups in America:

“But after more than six months of research and tracking; over 1,200 law enforcement actions and more than 300 terrorists identified; and a commendation for our efforts; DHS shut down the investigation at the request of the Department of State and DHS’ own Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Division. They claimed that since the Islamist groups in question were not Specially Designated Terrorist Organizations (SDTOs) tracking individuals related to these groups was a violation of the travelers’ civil liberties. These were almost exclusively foreign nationals: When were they granted the civil rights and liberties of American citizens?

Worse still, the administration then went back and erased the dots we were diligently connecting. Even as DHS closed my investigation, I knew that data I was looking at could prove significant to future counterterror efforts and tried to prevent the information from being lost to law enforcement.”

It’s not surprising that DHS’s Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Division (CRCL) was responsible for shutting down the investigation.  CRCL is the nexus for the Muslim Brotherhood influence in our government.  In 2008, under the Bush administration, then-DHS Secretary Michael Chertoff drafted a memo for CRCL that called on government officials to strip all references of Islamic supremacism from their training.  This memo was drafted, in the words of Chertoff, based on “its discussions with a broad range of Muslim American community leaders and scholars.”  In 2011, based on the same recommendations of these Muslim Brotherhood “scholars,” DHS published its training and guidance manual on the Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) agenda.  The manual instructs the bureaucrats to use examples to “demonstrate that terrorists and violent extremists vary in ethnicity, race, gender, and religion.”

If ISIS is the new quarterback for Islamic terror, the Muslim Brotherhood is their all-star offensive linemen. In theory the United States should have a great defensive line capable of overwhelming ISIS’ strategy. But with our very own Department of Homeland Security playing ball for the Muslim Brotherhood, the fox appears to be guarding the henhouse.
